Areas of Care:
Mrunalini D. Parvataneni, M.D. (Dr. “P”), is a pediatric ophthalmologist specializing in comprehensive pediatric eye care as well as complex pediatric eye conditions, such as pediatric cataracts and the treatment of amblyopia (lazy eye). She is also one of only a few doctors in the state specializing in the surgical and medical treatment of strabismus (eye alignment) for both children and adults. She has been a member of our respected team of doctors since 2002.
Dr. Parvataneni was born in India and grew up in Jamaica, where she began medical school at age 17. She received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of the West Indies in Jamaica. After an internship in Internal Medicine at Wayne State University in Detroit, she completed her ophthalmology residency at the State University of New York in Buffalo, where she also served as chief resident. She then completed her fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Parvataneni is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of many medical professional societies including the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS), American Academy of Ophthalmology, Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology, Minnesota Medical Association and the Twin Cities Medical Society.
Dr. Parvataneni’s passion for helping children maintain and improve their eye health stems in part from having strabismus surgery herself as a child. After seeing first-hand the impact that treatment of this condition and others like it can have on a child’s life, she knew at an early age that this was her calling.
In her spare time, Dr. Parvataneni enjoys vegetarian cooking from all over the world, exercise, spending time with her children, ages 7 and 5, and, to her surprise, recently learned to love downhill skiing.
Dr. “P” sees patients at our Maple Grove and Minnetonka locations.
